To help the team at our Lesedi-Potlana centre, we carried out a number of 'do-it-yourself' projects during our last visit. These included cooking and baking as well as practical handicrafts for personal use. If you think that cooking and handicrafts are mainly for girls, the boys from our centre proved that this is not the case. On Saturdays, girls and boys participated separately and enthusiastically in these voluntary activities.
The teenage boys really got into knitting their own scarf with the wool of their choice. The ease of knitting convinced them all and within three days they were presenting their own creations. Pajero knitted a beanie for himself.
The older girls were able to choose the fabric for their personal bags and, with guidance, made practical and artistic shoulder bags. Cutting out the material and sewing a large part of it by hand was a job that required perseverance but was done with a lot of fun.
