Our centre manager Charles Mokwena recently invited the teenage boys for a weekend at his home. He organized a challenging hike for Saturday, which stretched the participants in different areas, some of them to their limits.
It was an over 10-kilometre trail with steep climbs and descents. There were also challenges such as crossing a river on a rope and exploring dark cave passages. None of the young people had ever been on an adventure like this before. Walking 10 kilometres in temperatures of over 30 degrees was exhausting and for some of them the river crossing and the exploring of dark cave passage were personal challenges. At the end of the trek, the boys were very tired but proud of what they had achieved. They all agreed that it was an experience that showed them they could do things they would not have dared to do themselves.
